Large cell with round shape.

15 - 30 µm.

Stains basophilic (blue). The volume of the cytoplasm is small in comparison to the size of the nucleus. The cell is usually irregular in outline, moderately basophilic and non-granular. By the appearance of the cytoplasm it may be concluded which lineage stem cell will be developed from the examined hemocytoblast. If the cytoplasm is intensely basophilic, it will develop into a proerythroblast; if the cytoplasm contains rare azurophilic granules, it will become a myeloblast, and lymphoblast if the cytoplasm is pale blue.

Large, occupies the major part of the cell. It stains red. The chromatin has a finely reticular pattern.

1 - 2 well visible nucleoli.
